A new textbook on the general part of civil law written by Law Firm Partners. Partners of our Law Firm, Professor Adam Brzozowski and Professor Wojciech Kocot, have co-authored a textbook titled Prawo cywilne. Część ogólna (Civil Law. General Part), the third edition of which has just been published by the Wolters Kluwer publishing company.

The civil law is the law applied on a daily basis. You cannot live a day without being a subject of civil laws and relations regulated by civil law, as even the birth and death of a human being have their consequences under the civil law. Having that in mind, the authors have illustrated their discourse with plenty of uncomplicated examples of how particular institutions of law operate, taken both from practice and from the body of rulings. They have also used their didactic experience gained during many years of conducting courses and seminars.

The book discusses in an accessible way some basic issues such as:

  • the notions of natural person and legal entity,
  • subject rights,
  • declaration of intent and legal transactions,
  • protection of personal rights,
  • representation (with particular attention paid to the power of attorney and the commercial representation),
  • statute of limitations.

The already third edition of the textbook has been significantly amended and supplemented with numerous references to the current doctrinal views and the latest statements by the judiciary. It takes into account also the most recent legislative changes pertaining to, first of all, the new regulation on the forms of legal transactions, as included in the Civil Code.
